Vaginoplasty

Vaginoplasty is a surgical procedure in which the vaginal muscles are tightened along with the surrounding tissues giving it a better tone, strength and control, enhancing sensitivity.

As you grow older your vaginal muscles may lose their tone as part of the ageing process which can cause discomfort, particularly after pregnancy where there can often be weakness after giving birth. Vaginal tightening aims to support the muscle tone of the vagina by making the muscles and supporting tissue tighter. This procedure is often performed along with other procedures such as Labioplasty. At Hadley Wood Hospital our consultants are highly trained experts and will tailor each service to the patients needs ensuring all procedures are carried out to the highest standard.

Procedure

Your procedure will be performed under a general anaesthetic and will take around 1-2 hours to complete. Your surgeon will start by joining together the stretched muscles located at the back of the vagina removing any excess skin that is present.

This in turn will tighten the vaginal muscles around the soft tissue area and decrease the diameter. When your muscles in the vagina are tightened they can then support other internal organs such as the bladder, womb and bowel.

Aftercare

You may have some soreness around the operated area but you should be able to walk comfortably after a few days. You are advised to take around a week off work to ensure a full recovery.

It takes around 2-3 weeks to feel the effects of the vaginal tightening procedure, dissolvable stitches will be used therefore do not have to be removed, we also recommend wearing loose and comfortable clothing during this time.

Your surgeon will advise you of the appropriate aftercare following your surgery and will be on hand to answer any questions you may have.
