Nipple Correction Procedures

Some patients may be unhappy with the appearance of their breasts. Although nipple deformities cannot harm you physically, we understand they may leave a patient feeling self-conscious. At Hadley Wood Hospital we offer the following corrections for the nipple:

  • Inverted nipples – this is a condition in which the nipple is pulled inward, it is most common in both men and women. A minor procedure performed under a local anaesthetic taking around 30 minutes. Your surgeon makes an incision around the nipple and separates the ducts allowing the nipple to sit naturally. Dissolvable stitches are used to hold the nipple in place while it heals.
  • Nipple lift – A nipple lift is a correctional procedure designed to restore a more natural and youthful look to your breast. As time passes, a womans breasts may sag or the front of the breast may start to droop. The procedure is normally done under a local anaesthetic and takes around half an hour to complete. A small part of your skin is removed so that the tissue surrounding the area can be pulled upwards thus lifting the nipple. Once complete this will be stitched back into place. This procedure may reduce cup size slightly with the removal of the excess skin from the breast however women can have breast augmentation surgery if this is a concern.
  • Areola reduction – Areola reduction surgery is a simple correctional procedure designed to improve the look of a womans areola (the brown or pink area surrounding the nipple). The procedure is quick and performed under a local anaesthetic taking around 1-2 hours. An incision will be made by your surgeon in the outer part of the nipple of the areola which is then removed, the incisions are then closed with sutures which tighten the skin around the areola.
