24 Hour Holter Monitoring Service

holter-monitoring-system

Our Holter Monitoring Service is a diagnostic test that monitors your hearts rate and rhythm over a period an extended period of time (most commonly 24 hours but can be longer dependent on your needs).

Holter Monitor is a small device that is battery powered responsible for measuring the electrical activity of one’s heart. Similar to a regular ECG monitor, it uses electrode patches and leads to pick up your heart rate and rhythm. Abnormal heart beats and rhythms can be detected in the investigation of a variety of symptoms including palpitations, fainting, dizziness, chest pains or shortness of breath.

Recordings can be used to determine whether the electrical impulses in the heart are abnormal, delayed, too early, too fast or too slow. Such irregular impulses can be caused by or lead to arrhythmias.

Our specialist consultants are able to assess each patient and tailor the management of a patient’s condition to their individual needs. The facilities at the Royal Free Hadley Wood are state-of-the-art to provide patients with the most accurate readings.

PROCEDURE

The procedure involves attaching electrodes using small patches that are connected to leads to the chest. The monitor is worn around the waist or can be carried in your pocket. The monitoring system takes around 10 minutes to fit and then you are free to continue your daily activities.

Upon returning the Holter monitoring system your results will be analysed and reported with your cardiologist allowing you to understand the cause of your symptoms. Similar to Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring this test is non-invasive therefore you will feel no discomfort.
